Ricky and Ryan secured two second place finishes at round 4 of the Hyundai Heavy Industries British Sidecar Championship, pushing them back up the rankings.
Ricky and Ryan were in Snetterton this weekend for the latest round in the championship. But their attendance at the race had been brought into question when Ricky injured his foot while working, just days before heading to the Norfolk circuit.
To facilitate a speedy recovery, he is not allowed to put any weight on it at all. So they had to move the gear levers on the outfit to his handlebars which was a bit tricky because he’s not used to changing gears with his hand.
After a string of technical woes at the previous round, the team also changed the entire suspension system on their JG Speedfit Cool Kawasaki outfit – a gamble that seemed to pay off.
Ricky said he felt like there was plenty more in the bike at Snetterton whereas at Knockhill it felt like he couldn’t do anymore as they were at the maximum. So changing the suspension was a good move.
Having qualified in second place, Ricky and Ryan replicated that result in the first race late on Saturday afternoon. They had to give best to championship leaders Tim and Tristan Reeves.
With new regulations brought in this year, the top 10 finishers of the first race take place in reverse order on the grid at the second race. That means Ricky and Ryan started from ninth and had to fight their way through the pack to give chase to the Reeves.
Our champs struggled to cut through the fray but just four laps from the finish, they brazenly overtook both the Birchall brothers and James/Tritton in one fell swoop by slipping in between the two outfits and taking second place in the race.
That means they have now moved back up to second overall in the points table.
Roll on round 5 at Mallory Park on Sunday 9th July!
On Saturday 8th July, Ricky and Ryan and fellow racing teams will be offering sidecar taxi rides. For £20.00, visitors can experience two laps of the Mallory circuit.
All monies raised will go to the fund for the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire in London.
