Team Ricky & Ryan
Ricky and Ryan are double British F1 Sidecar Champions after back-to-back Championship wins in 2016. In 2017, they are riding as part of the JG Speedfit Kawasaki team and are ready to defend their title once again.
Ricky, whose nickname is Rocket, started racing in 1999 on an MZ. He won the MRO GP125 championships before teaming up with best mate Ben Holland on a sidecar, with Ricky taking on the co-rider role. Together Ben and Ricky won the Bensee F2 Championship in 2007 and making the step up to the F1 Championship the following year. In 2011, Ricky switched to driving the sidecar with Ryan joining him as co-rider early in 2012.
Ryan started in the racing world at the age of 16 and he became the youngest co-rider in the World Championship at the age of 17. In 2009, he finished fifth in the World Championship at Le Mans. He teamed up with Ricky in early 2012 after Ricky kept pestering him to co-ride with him. Since then they have gone from strength to strength and winning the F1 Championship. Ryan has the nickname RiRi on the circuit.
Ricky Stevens, from Portsmouth, and his passenger Ryan Charlwood, from Dover, have come a long way since first racing together in 2012.
They raced to Championship victory in 2015, clocking up 12 wins, 15 podiums and 3 lap records along the way. They also beat the World Champions, effectively making them the best sidecar riders in the world that year.
In 2016, Ricky and Ryan were riding for the Quattro Plant Cool Kawasaki team. Despite being plagued with technical issues and having to recover from an injury after an incident at round 3, the pair managed to secure podium finishes at every single round of the championship.
Ricky and Ryan are very passionate when it comes to their racing and they train very hard to succeed, but even with the dedication to their racing, Ricky and Ryan are very down to earth and are seen as the cheeky chaps of the Sidecar Championships. Ricky and Ryan are true friends and are fiercely loyal to each other, their team and their supporters.
As riders in Sidecars are not currently full time professional riders, Ricky and Ryan both have full time jobs to support themselves. Ricky is a tradesman and Ryan owns his own business.
