Ricky and Ryan secured another podium finish at round 7 of the Hyundai Heavy Industries British Sidecar Championship this weekend.
They had hoped to repeat last year’s double win on their home circuit but the weather and time constraints meant it wasn’t to be.
A heavy shower soaked the track just before the qualifying session on Friday afternoon. The team had taken a gamble on tyres which didn’t pay off, so they returned to pit lane to change them. Just as the pair headed back out on to the track to improve their time, the session was red flagged and they had to make do with a disappointing P15.
Race one on the Saturday was actually quite good for Ricky and Ryan in terms of confidence building.
They started in P15 and ended up in sixth place in the wet, which isn’t their strong suit, so they were both quite pleased with that.
Thankfully, race two was a dry one and the reverse grid rules meant Ricky and Ryan started from P5. They took third position early in the race, chasing the outfit of Holland/Ramsay but managed to overtake them on the third lap and grab a second-place finish.
The third race of the weekend was due to take place on Sunday afternoon, however – owing to schedule constraints and incidents on track – the race was eventually abandoned.
Sadly, this meant they didn’t get to accomplish what they had set out to do.
The focus now shifts on the next round at Cadwell Park and getting the bike ready for that. Ricky and Ryan will be hoping to redeem themselves there and grab that elusive win!”
The next round of the Hyundai Heavy Industries British Sidecar Championship will take place at Cadwell Park from 18th to 20th August.
